Spousal Support, also called alimony, refers to financial maintenance paid to a spouse that is designed to preserve each party’s economic status during or after the divorce process.
In California spousal support awards are not mandatory in dissolution or legal separation proceedings. Courts have discretion (within statutory parameters) to deny spousal support altogether or to limit the amount
and duration that reflects the ability of both parties to provide for their own needs.
Our firm is committed to formulating the best solution for each client. Certain clients may wish to achieve a settlement involving a one-time payout or buyout of assets rather than a protracted commitment to paying
or receiving alimony. Our firm explores all options available with the ultimate goal of protecting the client’s rights.
